Fall semester journals

1. Pretend that you are talking to a blind man and have to describe for him what "red" is. You should use narrative and descriptive writing techniques, and try to appeal to his other senses!
If I was talking to a blind man and to express what red is in words I would tell him that

2. How does competition function in our society? To what extent is it healthy/unhealthy? Offer some real world examples taken from your life, community, culture, state, nation, or world.
There are many types of competitions in our world and some of them would be business competitions and sport competitions. How it works in business is that those who are capable of succesfully mae profits are those who win while those who are unsuccesful in making profit go bankrupt. In sports competitions you can both have fun and you most of the time aim to win. Some examples would be the cross country team in our school which is one of the best one's in our district.

3. How have you taken something that you have learned in the classroom and integrated it into your nonacademic life?
Something that I have learn in my classroom and integrated it in mi nonacademic life would be that even if I am not in school I should be trying to help out the community by doing community service and I do it by going to church one's a week on sundays and during that time in church I help out setting tables and chairs

4. If you could go back in time and be someone in history, who would you choose? Why?
If I could go back in history and choose to be someone in history I would choose to be Abraham Lincoln because I think that his achievements as the president and how he rise up to become the president were very incredible. His achievement of winning the civil war and ending slavery is one of the most important accomplishments in America which is why I would choose Abraham Lincoln

5. If you had the responsibility to decide where $1 million should be spent to improve conditions somewhere in the world what project(s) would you choose? Why?
If I had the responsibility to decide where $1 million goes to I would sent it to an organization that helps the needed ones by giving them food, clothes, and shelter. I would do this because by doing so those people who have been help might be able to lead a better life and not starve to death

6. How have you try to effect change in relation to an issue of personal, local, or national significance?
One issue in which I have tried to effect change would be with the community service that I did in Tijuana River Valley, to try to cause a change in the environment in order to make it cleaner me and people from the IB group as well as Ocean force help in cleaning the river by picking up all the trash, plastics, tires, etc. there was in the river. And by doing so we were able to make the river as well as the ocean less polluted.

7. If you could introduce one new idea or material thing to a primitive culture, what would it be?
If I could introduce a new idea or material to a primitive culture I would introduce them to weapons because during their time, most of their survival depended mostly on hunting and gathering. And with weapons hunting animals will be much more easy for them and so more of them would survive.

8. If you were to describe yourself using a quotation, what would that quotation be? After you have chosen a quote, then write a bit about how it relates to you and reveals what kind of person you are?

9. Given the authority to establish a holiday, what would you choose to commemorate? Why? What would it be?
If I had the authority to establish a holiday I would make a holiday to commemorate all the people who have help improve our society by making it safer as well as improving the technology around us. The reason for that is because thanks to their help our lives are way easier than they should. And I would commemorate it by holding a celebration and thanking in their.

10. What is the best advice you have ever receive?
The best advice I have ever receive would be from my dad, he said "If you want to be successful you have to work hard", and so I try to do my best in order to be successful and have a better and easier life, without having to face so many challenges in my adulthood.

11. Ask and answer the one important question that a university won't ask you, but you wish they would.
One thing that I would  like to ask that a university won't answer is that if they believe if you would be able to graduate from the school. I thing that the reason for why they would not answer this question would be because if we don't answer what they expect that would mean we wasted our time in that university as well as ruining their expectations.

12. Your live is a movie. Describe the first 15 minutes.
Everyday I go to school I wake up at 6:00 AM, later on
I go to the bathroom to wash my teeth's so their clean and strong. After this I start taking a shower and wash my body then my hair, then I start dressing up  and when I am finish dressing up I get my materials and walk to school.

13. Write a letter to your future college roommate introducing yourself and your background.
Dear future roommate,

Hello, my name is Haruki Murakami and I was born in Japan, I am writing this letter to you to first introduce myself to you. Right now I live in California  and I'm in high school soon I will be in college. Some of the things that I like to do is to play soccer and anything related to sports or something physical. I also like to play video games and have fun. See you soon and hope we become very good friends.

14. Please describe your reactions/ideas to the following quote: "He does not posses wealth, it possesses him."
My idea of this quote is that what it is trying to say is that we do not control wealth but wealth controls us because we are the ones trying to gain wealth. Wealth is nothing more but paper money, gold, or jewels but there are people who are greedy to be wealthy so because of their greedy of wanting to be rich the are posses by wealth.

15. What is the most valuable contribution you could make to a college campus? Explain.
I think that the most valuable contribution we could make to a college would be being able to graduate from the school. I think that would be the best contribution because by having more graduates that would mean that the students in that college are intelligent and it would also mean that it has good teachers. Also by having graduates the prestige of the school would rise up and more people would want to go to that college.

16. Explain a significant experience, achievement, risk you have taken, or ethical dilemma you have faced and its impact on you.
A significant experience or achievement that I have gone through would be when I went to Tijuana River Valley, I learn that there is so much trash in the river that comes all the way fro Mexico and soon the trash goes into the ocean which contaminates it. When I went there with the IB group we all help picking up trash and there were many tires stuck to the dirt, when we finish the clean up the river was cleaner than before and with our help we were able to make the ocean less contaminated.

17. Discuss some issue of personal, local, national, or international concern and its importance to you.
One issue that I would want to discuss about is about the incidents that have occur in our school during the past year until now because due to this incidents the schools image has gone down and the media has been trying to worsen our schools image. Due to the seriousness of those incidents many have complain and the school has been somewhat disrupted, some examples of that is that at the start of the year there were problems with the schedule, also it has been really hard for the school since many teachers have retire from our school. How this affects us is that during the time we are out of school if people know what school we are from then some would try to criticize us and our school

18. If you could choose two things to change about our high school campus, what would they be and why?
If I could change two things about our campus one would be that I would change the food and the other would be that I would want to change the image people have about our school. The reason why I would want to change our school's food is that there are many people in our school  who complain about the food being not tasty. The other reason for why I would want to change peoples mind about our school is that people are looking at our school with a negative image why it may not be so true because I do not thing that our school is bad instead I thing that it is not all the schools fault but those who try to make our school seem bad.

19. Should school attendance be mandatory? In your answer, be sure to explore what the functions of education is, and what our nation would look like if the masses were less educated.
In my opinion school attendance should not be mandatory, thought education is a very important source of knowledge, forcing someone to attend to school won't motivate that individual to try his hardest in school. Going to school should be something we decide for ourselves even thought it can determine what our future is going to be like whether we decide to or not to go to school. Going or not going to school can make a major impact in our lives because by going to school we are able to gain knew knowledge of the world as well as being able to improve our judgment and decisions in life. Going to school can help you mature and have a sense of feeling of what the outside world is like which can prepare you for what is coming to you in the future. Education would help you in so many ways, much more than if you don't go to school, because by not going to school you are cutting your future by lessening your chances of being successful. If by not going to school, we would become less educated as well as less civilized because instead of trying to improve our lives we would be fooling around without having a sense of accomplishment in our society. If people are less educated society would become more of a dangerous place because more people would be committing crimes and there would not be much of an improvement in how we live our daily lives. Though school is very important we have to decide for ourselves and choose if we want to attend school in order to try to gain education and be able to live a better future life.

20. If you had the ability to talk to one species of animal, which animal would you choose to communicate with? Why?
If I had the ability to communicate with an animal, I would choose to speak to an eagle. The reason for why I would want to communicate with an eagle is because I would want to know their lifestyle. To me how they can fly high through the sky and be able to see far away with their vision is a really incredible experience and I would like to be able to do that. If I could talk to and comprehend them I would want to know how they are capable of flying through the skies and be able to see so far away with their vision, I would also want to ask them what they feel when they are all the way up in the sky flying, then I would ask them how far they can see when they are up in the sky and what they feel like when their watching all the things below them. I would also want to know what they do to live and what they do to have fun. I would also want to know how they made their nest and how they look for food to survive. I would also want to know what kind of challenges they face in their every they live and what is what they fear the most. I would also like to know how fast they are capable of flying and how high. I would also ask them how they are capable of seeing things that are behind wen the are facing forward. I would also want to ask them if they are happy about how they live and what is what they all like to do the most in their life's? One last thing that i would one to know about them is that if they have competitions between themselves to see who is the fastest and strongest of all.
